The Green Meeting Industry Council held their 8th Annual Sustainable Meetings conference in Chicago this April. Nearly 300 people attended including two members from our chapter, our President Sheila LeMaster and our Director of Membership Jenny Yu.
Sheila and Jenny summarized the conference for those who couldn’t attend at a meeting on April 24th at Paris Casino. Takeaways from the Chapter Leadership session were to continue a focus within our chapter on building awareness, education and recognizing best practices. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), often a forgotten element of sustainable events, will be a hot trend for 2013/14, reports Jenny Yu.
In light of this, the next Las Vegas chapter event is all about CSR. It will showcase three not-for-profits in a panel discussion to showcase their organizations and to examine how meeting planners can work with these charities to develop a meaningful CSR event for their attendees while in Las Vegas. The panel is Clean the World, Opportunity Village, The Shade Tree and The Three Square Food Bank.
I’m excited to attend this event as it has two of my favorite charities, Clean The World and The Shade Tree.
Clean The World has an amazing corporate CSR program for groups and Rachel Clarke Events can easily fit this into an morning or afternoon team building activity or spouse tour program. It is a great feeling when the soap you used in your luxurious room at Wynn is recycled for those less fortunate somewhere else in Las Vegas.
The Shade Tree is a safe shelter to homeless and abused women and children (and their pets) located in Las Vegas. I’m look forward to building my relationship with them at this event as their vision really resonates with me. ‘Self reliance for every woman and child.’
